The 10th Annual Lawrence Sertoma Cookoff May 9th and 10th, 2008 |
|
It was a great time for all !! If you missed the 2007 contest, put 2008 on your calendar. Want more information? Here are the details ...

Who Can Be a CONTESTANT? Anyone who is a member of KCBS (for membership application call 816-765-5891). You just need to love cooking on a BBQ grill and want to compete. The price is $150 per team plus $20 if electricity is needed. This event includes cooking and judging in 4 meat categories.
Where?
Broken Arrow Park, 29th & Louisiana, Lawrence, Kansas
What is 48 BAR-B-Q? We call the Lawrence SERTOMA Cook-off the 48 Bar-B-Q because we limit the competition to 48 teams competing for $4,800 in 48 categories. It’s a BBQ Battle of professionals and amateur cooks to win dollar prizes and ribbons. The public is invited to sample meats prepared for judging in a separate "People's Choice" contest. The event has been sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society (KCBS). Our competition is a State Championship, so our Grand Champion winner gets to compete in the American Royal Cook-Off !
Why? The money raised through our FUN-raising events have helped our community parks, city buildings and a variety of children’s projects for over seventy years. The funds from our Bar-BQ will make it possible to continue these worthwhile projects. Over 50% of the money will be used for children and adults with speech, language and/or hearing disorders in Lawrence and Douglas County through our relationship with the Business-Education Partnership (USD 497) and the Schiefelbusch Clinic at the University of Kansas.
When? The 2008 Cookoff will be Friday May 9 & Saturday May 10.
