Events on Saturday, May 11
All you can eat pancake breakfast Starting at 7:00 AM on Saturday, the Wakarusa Fire Department will be serving pancakes, sausage, coffee and juice at the fire house. You can walk from the park or drive to this event (vehicle access is from 31st Street). All funds raised benefit the Fire Department.
People's Choice BBQ Contest There are two People's Choice rounds which run from 11:00 -12:15 and then again from12:30-2:00 ... or while the supply of brisket and pork lasts in each round. The meat is prepared by our offical contestants, and you have a chance to vote for your favorite in each category. The suggested donation for each round is $6 or one Sertoma BBQ Coupon.
Other choices or food and drink will be available at the Sertoma food tent.
Official Contest Judging starts at 12:00 noon as our offical contestants compete for prizes and money. This is a State Championship BBQ sanctioned through KCBS (the Kansas City BBQ Association). This part of the Cookoff is not open to the public. There will be 48 Judges (nearly all being KCBS Certified Judges) determining the winners in each of four meat categories - chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. The grand champion will be the team with the highest average score in all categories and will be invited to participate in the American Royal BBQ Cookoff.
Awards Ceremony Prizes (ribbons and cash) will be awarded to the cooking teams starting around 2:30. There will also a drawing for the Sertoma Raffle at this time.
